The cycling tour throughout the most picturesque areas of Crimea
DAY 1 SIMFEROPOL - SOUDAK 120km, time en-route 2 hours by coach Arrive Simferopol. Meet/greet & transfer by coach: Simferopol-Soudak. Check-in to hotel "Horisont". Preparation for the trip. Bicycles maintenance. Dinner at hotel restaurant. Rest, overnight at hotel
DAY 2 SOUDAK - RYBACHE 60km , time en-route 10 hours by bicycles Early off today the party heads west skirting the landscapes of scenic beauty of the hills & forests, vineyards and pebble beaches of the Southern Coast of Crimea. We ride up & down along the coast line of the Black Sea (total ascent - 400 m). Lunch is served in boxes at one of the stopping places. In the late afternoon the group arrives in a resort village of Rybache. Dinner & overnight at hotel "Rybache".
DAY 3 RYBACHE - LOUCHYSTE 45km time en-route 12 hours by bicycle In the morning we ride along the undulated seaside road. Pass the mountain Demerdji with its rocky slopes with one of them resembling strongly the profile of the Empress Katherine II. Under her ruling the Crimea was conquered by Russia. After lunch our ride leads to the picturesque lake and then our way runs across the Crimean National Preserve which once was a favourite hunting area of the last Russian tsar. The route winds up in the shadow of oak forest, the road is so steep & narrow that it could hardly be used by the regular traffic. We climb up to the top of the mountain (1150m above the sea level) from where one could observe a stunning view of the Aloushta area that lies beneath. The descent with brief stop for a visit to the ancient monastery famous for its salubrious water spring takes a good deal of time. Dinner & overnight at hotel "Doubrava" (Oak Forest) in the town of Louchyste. (total ascent - 1450m)
DAY 4 LOUCHISTE - YALTA 42km time en-route 6 hours by bicycle The trip starts from plateau. On our way to Yalta we pass by the mountain Roman-Kosh (1545m) - the highest in the peninsular. Then the group is approaching the so-called "pavilion of winds" - a favourite place of the former communist leader Khroushchev. From the viewpoint one couldn't help admiring an unforgettable view of the pearl of Crimea - the city of Yalta . Pedalling through the thick pine forests the party reaches the Nikitsky Canyon (1448m). While descending we cross the incredibly rich lands of untouched by a human being beauty. Visit to Uch-Kosh Canyon the group will remember forever. We arrive in Yalta at lunchtime. Accommodation & lunch at hotel "Magnolia". After short break free time could be allocated for the exploration of the city or leisure at the pebble beaches of Yalta. The area features plenty of attractions all of them are worth seeing. But there is one a must see landmark that even in the event of time shortage should be visited - Livadia Palace where in 1945 the Yalta Conference was taken place.
DAY 5 YALTA - AI PETRI - GRAND CANYON - SOKOLYNE 47km Today's ride leads us to the most picturesque mountain of Crimea - Ai-Petri. We pedal hard to climb up on the top of it (1200m). One can get easily there by a cable car for this place is one of the most popular attractions with the tourists. We travel through the plateau, pass by the astronomical observatory & then go downhill. The party stops for a short break to admire the scenery of the Grand Canyon. Our home for overnight will be a boarding house "Orliny Zalyot" (Eagle's Place) in the village of Sokolyne.
DAY 6 SOKOLYNE-VALLEY OF DEATH - SEVASTOPOL 65km Early ride through the scenic beauty of the Crimean Mountain Range. We proceed our way descending along the valley of the Bilbek River. The mountains around are not very high but rocky. The group rides through the so-called Bilbek gates, where the river is bound by 2 white vertical rocks. Narrow road goes by the small villages, gardens & vineyards. We are approaching the Valley of Death where a small monument reminds about the historical events of the battle at Balaklava (the Crimean "Eastern" War 1854-56). The nearer we are coming up to Sevastopol the more memorials & monuments commemorating the battles of the World War II & the Crimean War we meet. In late afternoon the group arrives in Sevastopol. Overnight at hotel "Crimea".
DAY 7 SEVASTOPOL Free time for independent exploration of the city. Optional: excursions to St. Vladimir's Cathedral, Diorama of the Assault of Sapoun Mountain, visit to the Museum & the excavations of the ancient Greek city of Khersones, excursion in the Panorama that demonstrats the events of the Crimean War, boat ride through the world renowned Sevastopol Bay, trip to Bakhchisarai - the former capital of the Crimean Khanstvo, etc. Overnight at hotel "Crimea".
DAY 8 SEVASTOPOL Early transfer to Simferopol for return flight.
